Dear Athena and Seth,
It makes me very sad to think that your mother is gone from this world. Being back home as infrequently as I am, I sort of expect people who have always been in my life to be there forever, and, no matter how old they become, I am somehow stunned when I learn, most usually from my brother, that they no longer there.

I liked Edna very much (who didn't?) and will always remember her as a good, smart, capable, and fun person. She modeled an admirably positive outlook on life, and it was always nice to see her on return trips to Clarkesville.

My heart is with you. Losing a parent is always difficult. But when both our parents are gone, our world and our places in it are changed, no matter our age. Give yourselves time and space to reflect and remember your mother.

With all my love,
Liz Ruark Hoefer

Marilyn McNeely
